M.ª José Madeira

Environmental Director at Álava Provincial Government

Maria José Madeira graduated in Science, Biology Section from the University of the Basque Country (UPV/EHU) (2000), has a Diploma of Advances Studies in Environmental Biology and Quality of Life, UPV/EHU (2001-2003); PhD in Biological Science, UPV/EHU (2006).

Lecturer and researcher at the UPV/EHU (2007-2023).

Her research is focused on the application of a multidisciplinary approach to studying the mechanisms and generate and maintain biodiversity and ecosystemic services, how they are spatially distributed and the effects that the global change (climate change, pollution, fragmentation of the habitats and overexploitation) has on them. The socio-economic aspects are all related to the type of management of the ecosystems and seeking to developing mechanisms that ensure they are maintained helping to improve health, economy and the quality of life of society.
