Aitor Zulueta

Director of the Vitoria-Gasteiz Environmental Studies Centre (CEA)

Aitor graduated in Science (Applied Geology) from the Faculty of Science and Technology of the University of the Basque Country (UPV/EHU) and has an MBA from the London School of Economics. His professional experience ranges from working in environmental engineering and consultancy in the private sector, teaching as an Associate Lecture at the School of Civil Engineering at Cantabria University, to his time in the public sector as the Basque Government’s Director for Natural Heritage and Climate Change, as a researcher at BC3 (Basque Centre for Climate Change), and as Director of the Environmental Studies Centre of Vitoria-Gasteiz City Council, which is his current position.

During his time in the private sector, from 1998 onwards, he took part in many innovation projects of innovation in circularity based on the reuse of industrial byproducts in different applications in civil engineering. While he was in the Basque Government, he coordinated the approval of the Baque Circular Economy Strategy 2030.

Aitor is also a member of the Roster of Experts of the Secretariat of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC); he is currently taking part in the transparency framework of the Paris Agreement.
