Sonia graduated in Environmental Science from Miguel Hernández de Elche University (Spain) and has a Master’s Degree in Sustainable Waste Management from the Polytechnic University of Madrid – ECOEMBES Chair (Spain). She has 11 years’ experience in the plastic and waste management sector. In 2018, Sonia joined AIMPLAS – Plastics Technology Centre and is currently the Circular Economy and the Environmental Leader of the Cluster. Her expertise and experience are in developing and improving waste recycling facilities to increase the efficiency of the selected materials.
Her remit includes researching the recyclability of products and different mechanisms to streamline the best methods, manufacturing processes, recycling / recovery of materials and ecodesign. Sonia has taken part in international and national projects focused mainly on recovering waste to obtain new products, as well as preventing marine waste and recovering it for reuse. She is a speaker at seminars and conferences, and has run training courses for companies on recycling plastics and the circular economy. She is a certified RecyClass auditor for plastic recycling and plastic transformation plants, and also holds RecyClass Plastic Container Recyclability certification.
